Using discount settings to encourage customers to write reviews

One way to encourage your customers to leave reviews after their purchases is to offer a discount code for their next purchase. Let’s explore how to set discount features for your campaign.

Enable the discount setting

Steps

1. From the Ali Reviews dashboard, navigate to the left-side menu, and click Collect Reviews.
2. Click Discount at the top of the collect reviews page.
3. Select Discount Setting

4. Toggle on the discount setting to activate this feature.
5. Click Save

After enabling the discount setting, move to the next step to select the discount method and discount value. There are 2 discount methods available:

• A unique code for each kind of review: Create different unique discount codes for each type of review such as text review, photo review, or video review. This option is ideal when you want to offer discount codes only to customers who submit reviews.

• A discount code for all customers: Create only one discount code and apply it to all customers.

A unique code for each kind of review

If you select the method of a unique code for each kind of review, you have 2 options to set the discount value as

• A percentage (%) of the total price
• A fixed amount ($)

Set discount value as a percentage (%)

If you select discount value as the percentage (%), follow these steps:

Steps

1. After selecting the method of a unique code for each kind of review, click Percentage.
2. Fill in the number value in the field. The number value must be from 1 to 100.
3. You can toggle off which type of review you want to disable or toggle on to let it work.

We recommend the discount value should increase gradually:

• Reviews with text should have the smallest discount.
• Reviews with photos should have a slightly larger discount.
• Reviews with video should have the largest discount.

For example: Discount value

Review with text: 5%

Review with photo: 7%

Review with video: 10%

• After saving these changes, the discount code will be created and shown on Shopify after your customer wrote the review.
• This discount code can be used once unless you change it from the Shopify setting. You can see the discount code by clicking Discounts from the Shopify admin.
• Video review is only available from the Basic plan.

Set discount value as a fixed amount ($)

Follow these steps below if you select discount value as a fixed amount:

Steps:

1. After selecting the method of a unique code for each kind of review, click Fixed amount.
2. Fill in the number value in the field. For example 1$, 2$.
3. You can toggle off which feature you want to disable or toggle on to let it work.

We recommend the discount value should increase gradually: Reviews with text < reviews with photos < reviews with video.

For example: Discount value

Review with text: 1$

Review with photo: 2$

Review with video: 3$

Offer a discount for reviews

The next step after setting up a discount value is selecting which reviewers will get a discount code.

• Only review request

This option will provide a discount code for reviewers who submitted reviews via review request email, review submission page.

• On website & review request

This option will offer a discount code for both 2 cases:

• For reviewers who submitted reviews via review request email, review submission page.
• For reviewers who wrote and submitted reviews directly on your store.

Set up expiration

Fill in the number date to specify a particular date until customers can use the discount. This ensures that the discount is only available for a limited time.

If you don’t set an expiration date, the discount will remain valid until someone applies it to their purchase.

A discount code for all customers

Steps

1. From the discount setting, in the discount method, select A discount code for all customers.
2. Select one discount code. Besides, clicking Create a new discount will open the discount page of the Shopify admin to let you create a new discount code.

3. Select which types of reviews to apply a discount: all reviews (text, photos, videos) or only reviews with photos/videos.
4. Click Save after completing all the settings.
